CHEMPUTE SOFTWARE - MAY 2001 NEWSLETTER NEW SOFTWARE RELEASES AFT MERCURY Applied Flow Technology, who provide the popular fluid flow software AFT Fathom, Arrow and Impulse, have recently released a new software package called AFT Mercury. This program uses the flow analysis and system modeling capabilities of Fathom, combined with an optimization engine to automatically select optimal pipe sizes and component sizes, so as to minimize cost, volume or weight. Cost functions include life cycle costs (e.g. maintenance, energy costs etc) in addition to initial capital costs, in order to maximize savings on selected pipe/pump/valve systems. Since piping systems can be very large, the potential cost savings by optimization of system components are also very large. For further information, go to: http://www.chempute.com/aftmercury.htm. There is a demo version of AFT Mercury available on our web site, at http://www.chempute.com/ftp.htm.AERMOD SUITE / ISC SUITE In addition to providing software for modeling accidental chemical emissions (Breeze/Haz), Trinity Consultants have available software for modeling of continuous air emissions from industrial sources such as stacks, chimneys, flares, tanks etc. ISC SUITE is based on the U.S EPA's air quality modeling routine (ISC) which is currently mandatory in the USA. However, the EPA will shortly be changing over to the more sophisticated AERMOD model in their mandatory regulations. This is catered for by Trinity Consultants, in their AERMOD SUITE. These models predict pollutant concentrations from point, line, volume, and flare sources with variable emissions, based on actual terrain models and meteorological conditions. The models also take into account the effect of buildings in urban areas, on pollutant dispersion. For more details go to: http://www.chempute.com/breezeaermod.htm and http://www.chempute.com/breezeisc.htm2001 ASME BOILER & PRESSURE VESSEL CODE The 2001 edition of the ASME BPVC code is due for release around 20th July, 2001. We are currently taking orders for this new version, which will be available in printed form, or on CD-ROM. Each section of the code can be purchased individually, or in sets (e.g. Pressure Vessels, Nuclear, Non-Nuclear, Complete). The "Pressure Vessel" set comprises Sections II, IID, VIII and ASME Referenced Standards and Interpretations. The "Non-Nuclear" set comprises Sections I, II, IID, V, VIII, IX, X, Code Cases, Referenced Standards and Interpretations. The CD-ROM version has great advantage over the printed version since it allows PDF text search of the entire CD including charts, figures etc. It is also portable (try carrying around the full printed version !!). Lastly, the CD-ROM version is a lot cheaper than the printed version. Please contact us with your requirements. INTERESTING WEB SITE Paulin Research Group (PRG), our USA suppliers of FE/PIPE, NOZZLE PRO, FEA NOZZLES software for finite element analysis of piping and vessel components and nozzles, as well as BOS FLUIDS software, have put up a completely revamped website. This has details of their software, sample data output, graphics, and discussion on applications. All the Paulin software can be purchased from Chempute Software. Their website address is: http://www.paulin.comFREE SOFTWARE CORNER 1) LISA 4.0.0. A wonderful free Finite Element program available for download. All the software commands are active, the only restriction is on the size of the models which cannot exceed a maximum number of 1300 nodes. http://www.lisa-fet.com2) TURBOCAD 2D LT. A free 2D drafting package, with no features crippled. Can edit Autocad .dwg files. http://www.imsisoft.com/turbocad/2d/index.cfmOther free engineering utility downloads are available from our Chempute Software download webpage: http://www.chempute.com/ftp.htmREMOVE / ADD USERS If you wish to be REMOVED from our newsletter e-mailout, please reply to this e-mail with "remove" in the subject field.
