NEW SOFTWARE RELEASES

CADWORX PIPE 3.1 New Build 26 March, 2001
Cadworx/Pipe is an Autocad application for 2D/3D drafting of plant 
piping, with automatic isometrics, bill of materials and ODBC 
database linking to a central component database.  Includes easy 
to use pipe specification generator, and libraries of standard piping 
fittings and specs.  The latest build (26Mb) is available to current 
version 3.1 licencees and may be downloaded from:

CADWORX/P&ID 3.1 New Build 26 March, 2001
Cadworx/P&ID is an Autocad application for drafting of piping and 
instrumentation drawings, using an ODBC link to a central 
component database which permits automatic drawing updates 
within a project from within the database.  Automated line 
numbering, component annotation, and option for template driven 
automated loop diagrams.   The latest build (5 Mb) is available to 
current version 3.1 licencees and may be downloaded from:

COMPRESS (BUILD 6138) - PRESSURE VESSEL DESIGN 
The original build 6138 released in February was found to have an 
error in certain Div II calculations.  The build has subsequently 
been patched and rereleased on 6th March and is available for 
download from
http://www.codeware.com/build6138.exe
This interim patched version can be used for Div I calculations, but 
the corrected Div 2 calculations will only be made available later.

ENGINEER'S AIDE SINET  Version 6
EPCON has now released version 6 of this engineering toolbox 
software, which covers pressure drop calculations through pipes, 
ducts and pipe networks, pump/fan/compressor sizing, shell&tube 
and plate heat exchanger sizing, flowmeter and control valve sizing, 
vessel/tank sizing, flash calculations, physical properties, project 
management, steam tables, and process equipment cost 
estimating.  Details are available on

CHEMGUIDE 4.1
Chemguide is a corrosion resistance software guide that assists in 
the selection of suitable materials in close contact with chemicals 
and other media.  The program is locally written, and is the product 
of 6 years of data collection and verification, with values derived and 
cross-referenced from more than 50 sources, including service 
tests, accepted standards, equipment and chemical 
manufacturers.  The program contains compatibility information for 
over 9000 chemicals and materials, including metals, 
thermoplastics, elastomers, thermosets, metal oxides, carbides.  It 
also contains a guide for selection of mechanical seal materials.

FREE SOFTWARE CORNER

For March, we have found some very useful software utilities:

TANKJKT is not "free", but at $79 is "nearly free" !  This Excel 
spreadsheet application models heat transfer in tanks with external 
jackets or internal coils, with or without agitation. It estimates heat 
transfer coefficients, calculates pressure drop through the jacket, 
and calculates tank temperature as a function of time.  It includes 
a database of over 100 heat transfer fluids, data for common vessel 
and lining materials, and several sets of worked calculations for 
DeDietrich and Pfaudler reactors.  This software can be purchased 
directly from the author at http://www.chemengsoftware.com.

FILTRATION CALCULATOR.  This set of free Excel spreadsheet 
applications by Dr.Richard Holdich (Loughborough Univ., UK) 
includes filtration calculations for rotary vacuum filtration, pressure 
leaf filtration, compressible cake filtration under constant pressure, 
constant flowrate or fixed pressure profile, and batch sedimentation 
(Kozeny-Carman).  Comes with an Acrobat document describing 
filtration theory.  Download this from:
