CHEMPUTE SOFTWARE - APRIL 2000 NEWSLETTER
==========================================

NEW SOFTWARE RELEASES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@RISK 4.0
This Risk Analysis software can find equal usage in process
plant operation, product pricing, stockmarket analysis, or in
fact in any industry where risk can be simulated using Monte
Carlo analysis. @Risk is an add-in for Excel or Lotus 1-2-3,
(a separate module is available for MS Project), that takes
existing spreadsheet models and adds uncertainty distributions
to spreadsheet variables. Version 4 has just been released,
and now includes RiskView, BestFit and RiskOptimizer.
@Risk 4.0 Standard costs $495 + S&H, while the more comprehensive
Decision Tools Suite costs $995 + S&H and includes TopRank and
Precision Tree. For more information on @Risk, see the
description at www.chempute.com/risk.htm, or download the free
demo from our download section.
CHEMDRAW 6
This popular Chemistry Drawing software has now been released as
Version 6. New features include multiple page documents (e.g.
8x6) which is useful for creating posters, stereochemistry
views of tetrahedral atoms and double bonds, improved ChemNMR
with correlation between selected atoms and line spectra,
dashed geometric figures, shaded spline curves, and right-
button contect menus. Chemdraw 6.0 has three versions:
Standard ($595 + S&H), Pro ($995 + S&H), and Ultra ($1395 + S&H).
The Ultra version includes ChemNMR and ChemProp. There is also
the top of the range ChemOffice 6.0 Ultra which includes
ChemDraw, Chem3D, ChemInfo, ChemFinder, ChemNMR, ChemACX, and
Mopac97 and which costs $2395 + S&H.
AFT FATHOM/IMPULSE
IMPULSE is used for calculating waterhammer/surge transients in
piping systems, based on a steady state network starting point
which is calculated by FATHOM. The software uses the method of
characteristics to solve the mass and momentum equations. This
is useful for simulating valve closures/openings, pump startups
and shutdowns, and relief valve cracking, to name a few.
Impulse incorporates a model for vapour cavitation and liquid
column separation so the effect of pressure surges due to vapour
cavity collapse can be accurately modeled. A description and
demo download can be found at http://www.aft.com/impulse.htm.
These programs can be ordered directly from Chempute Software.
Impulse+Fathom+Chempak Property Database = $4995 + S&H
FREE SOFTWARE CORNER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>From Russia with Love !!
Alexander Maikov from Moscow Engineering University has written
a shortcut distillation routine which can accessed online on the
web at http://www.com2com.ru/~maikov/todis/todisinp.htm.
The software is called TODIS and is limited to ideal solutions
and columns with one feed ( Full Fractionator), and up to 20
feed components from a databank of 480 components.
Both english and SI units are handled. The routines use
thermodynamic optimization methods to determine separation, and
compare well with rigourous multi-stage simulation. Use of the
calculator is free.

THERMAL WIZARD
This is a free online web calculator for calculation of heat
conduction, convection, radiation and head loss coefficients.
It also has unit conversion and material property tables. A
great tool ! View this calculator at

FEEDBACK
~~~~~~~~~
If you love or hate the Chempute newsletter, please let us know
your comments so that we can serve your needs better. Engineers
seldom have the time to spend searching for information on the
Internet, so we try to provide useful information on our
software and on engineering topics in general, which you might
find useful.
